The sign "Home of Dan River Fabrics" atop the white mill building continues to come down this afternoon.
City officials say a permit was not needed to take down the letters. A permit would be necessary to remove the structural framework for the sign.
Deputy City Manager Lyle Lacy said the sign was sold to a private individual, but Lacy does not know what the individual plans to do with the sign.
